(15.4% alcohol; a blend of 50% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17% Cabernet Franc): Full medium red. Aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, mocha and milk chocolate are lifted by sexy oak spices and a floral element. Supple, pliant and accessible, showing a saline quality to the red berry, spice and mocha flavors. Doesn’t show quite the dimension or depth of the Petit Verdot but this wine offers more early appeal. Finishes broad, with dusty tannins and very good length.

The blend is 50% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17% Cabernet Franc, aged in 100% new French oak. The only wine from this producer that is a blend, it currently shows an abundance of barrel flavors. The baking spices overpower some of the signature elements that this distinguished vineyard imparts—the mineral, saline, iron and steel notes often found in Ciel’s red wines.
