2013 Zoe's Dance Ciel du Cheval, Red Mountain
Petit Verdot truly is the quintessential Bordeaux variety. Intensity can be used to describe every aspect of its character from its color which is so dark and deep that it is nearly impossible to see through it to its aromas of black fruits and spices. On the palate it has dense tannins. While Merlot from Ciel du Cheval is also known for being intense, it is more elegant with layer after layer of complexity. Zoe's Dance is a blend of these two grapes. The Merlot providing grace and complexity, while the Petit Verdot provides power. Together they create a wine worthy of aging.
Fermented in separate lots. Aged for 22 months in neutral oak barrels.
An incredibly deeply colored wine. Aromas of blackberry, red fruits, violet, and mint emerge at first, followed by hints of leather and game. The palette is spicy with berry and slightly sweet oak flavors. The mouth feel is supple with a long fine-grained dusty finish. 91 cases produced. 90 points, The Wine Advocate. Learn more ...

A half Merlot and half Petit Verdot blend, the 2013 Zoe's Dance is firm, dark and juicy with elements of black tea, dark plum skin and dark cherry. Full-bodied, the wine is generous and inky on the palate with firm tannins that grip the gumline before offering flavors of bitter dark chocolate, dusty plums and blackberry essence. The wine continues with a chewy nature and firm mouthfeel that needs food to settle its weight and tannic structure. I see a ribeye in my future with this wine. Drink Date: 2021-2027.
