2012 Syrah Ciel du Cheval, Red Mountain

n/a

This wine was made in a simple and straightforward way which allows the fruit and the terroir to shine. Two clones of Syrah were blended to make the final wine.  Each clone was fermented separately and kept in separate barrels during the first 18 months of aging. They were then combined to allow them to mingle forming a rich and complex blend.

Elegant and smooth with aromas of blueberry and floral notes.  The palate is structured, smooth and full, while the finish is long lasting but delicate.  Balanced, the minerality of the vineyard shows through.  122 cases produced. 94 pts Wine Enthusiast. Learn more ...

Two clones of Syrah were blended and aged in neutral oak, often the best choice for this expressive grape. Dark and concentrated blue and purple fruit is dusted with white pepper. Streaks of espresso and dark chocolate keep the finish long and lively.

Rand Sealey's Review of Washington Wines - 19/20 points.

Estate grown from one of Red Mountain’s premier vineyards, this exhibits a deep purplish color and an unmistakable Syrah nose of blackberry, blueberry, and cassis, with scents of crushed black roses, mulberry, tobacco, lavender and smoldering incense. The flavors, as well, are true to variety, with black and blue fruit flavors that are imbued with black licorice, dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee beans, and Red Mountain scorched earth. On the back, the wine stays saturated, but turns svelte, with sensations of crushed berries, sweet nuts and burnt charcoal. The alcohol registers at 15.5%, but does not seem at all hot, tempered by bright fruit acids on the lingering, spice dusted grainy tannin finish. 19/20 points.
